Look Younger in 20 Minutes!
The Korwitts Chiropractic Center is happy to offer an exciting facial treatment called Lumiere. Lumiere is a non-lasar, non-thermal, non-invasive skin care therapy that is likely to leave you looking so radiant, friends, family and co-workers might start thinking you've found the Fountain of Youth. Combining the healing power of 633-nanometer red light waves with topical skincare products, Lumiere promotes skin rejuvenation, reversing the effects of sun damage and chronological aging. Problematic skin affected by acne and cosmetic imperfections can also benefit. Call the clinic to find out more information.... or schedule a complimentary treatment. This skincare regimen for facial rejuvenation is available for a fraction of the cost of other "soft surgery" procedures offered by dermatologists.

Do I apply Heat or Ice?

Here are some general guidelines on when to use heat or ice.

APPLY ICE TO ACUTE INJURIES.  An acute injury is a sudden unexpected injury or may be the result of an accident.  Usually there is redness, tenerness to touch, pain and swelling.

Applying ice to acute injuries will restrict blood flow to the area to reduce the swelling and the pain.  Apply ice for no longer than 20 minutes at a time, any longer can cause frostbite.  You should apply ice to the area several times a day.

APPLY HEAT TO CHRONIC INJURIES.  A chronic injury is a longstanding injury (ie. repetitive sports injury).

Application of heat increases blood flood and relaxes tight muscles or muscle spasms.  Applying heat can be taking a hot shower, bath, wet hot towel, or a heating pad.  Apply heat to the injured area for 15-20 minutes.  DO NOT APPLY HEAT if there is swelling or redness.  Moist heat work works best.

The greatest mistake in the treatment of diseases is that there are physicians for the body and physicians for the soul, although the two cannot be seperated.

Ulcer News
If you are one of 25 million Americans suffering from an ulcer, you may be interested to learn that a recent review of over 35 years of studies is showing you may be able to eat, drink and still be ulcer free. In other words, spicy foods, coffee and alcohol will not cause ulcers. The review also suggests that while milk may seem to soothe an ulcer's burn, it may long-term, cause irritation that can worsen symptoms. What can you do to help mend an ulcer? In a new Polish study, antioxidant-rich GSE (Grapefruit Seed Extract) decreased gastric acid production, which helped reduce the size of stomach ulcers by 50% in 6 days. GSE is available in health food stores. Follow package instructions, And if you are a smoker, you can also quit the habit! A National Institute of Health's report indicates that ulcers occur much more frequently in smokers. Finally, according to the American Journal of Gastroenterology, ulcers occur 17% less often in those who drink a glass of red wine a day. (And yes, the Journal does specify "a glass" and not "a bottle"!)

Walk or Dance off those Calories!
With spring fast approaching, let go of those extra winter pounds by walking or dancing! Exercise not only burns calories, it builds metabolism-building muscle and helps lower insulin levels. Kirstie Alley on Oprah swears she danced off 55 pounds. Oh, and don't feel you need a partner to dance those calories away. Consider using a fun video for inspiration. Check at www.amazon.com for any number of great choices like "Crunch Cardio Salsa" or "NYC Ballet Workout."
